OMG! Twitter..I Really Am Not Feeling It!

What is the deal with Twitter Really?  Like Really, I just don't get it.  Yes, I have had a Twitter account for maybe three or four years now, but guess what?  I rarely ever use it, I even unistalled it a few times off my phone because I didn't want any alerts.  I got a Twitter account because my favorite manager who is now my friend suggested I try it years ago, so I did.

Still don't really get it, but I will use it much more in these next six weeks than I have the entire time I have had an account, my hope, I find an appreciation for it before the end of this class and use it like I use my Facebook account, maybe not everyday like I do "Da Book" but at least a few times a week.

We shall see what happens.

  1. Twitter takes a little getting used to. I didn't like it at first, but it is growing on me. I know you probably wouldn't like it because you are limited to 140 characters and you usually have a lot to say. Your thoughts are deeper than 140.

  2. What have you been trying to use Twitter to do? I find that people who try to use it like Facebook (or who view it as a Facebook alternate) find it to be a frustrating experience. People who use it more as a newsreader or networking tool may find it more satisfactory. The experience can be very different based on who's in your network and what you're trying to accomplish.

    1. Honestly, I hadn't really given it much thought for what I would use it for, I have kinda just watched what people posted and occasionally re-tweeted something I found interesting. But I do think it will force me to simply my messages

  3. I agree wholeheartedly with Dr. Dennen's comment. I really enjoy Twitter but use it very specifically for a newsreader and networking tool. I occasionally make a more personal comment but think of it like a professional profile. I think it can work great to stay abreast of happenings in the field if you are following the right accounts. For example, when I first began using it, I found my feed frustrating because there was very little that I wanted to read. I cleaned up who I follow to accounts with reputation for relevant article shares. I also seek out recommended accounts to follow, such as the list that was posted in our #eme6414 course.

  4. Sometimes, I feel like I'm just throwing my thoughts out into the ether. But I can guarantee that there will be someone or some community interested in the messages or may find that it complement one of their own tweets. I believe it's a matter of timing but also making the message as accessible as possible by providing a hashtag for discoverability because there is so much noise out there. Also, retweeting and liking someone's posts will let them know you're engaged, which in turn may lead them to connect with you. I like the 140 character limit as it challenges you to boil down your message to the most succinct level.
